It should first be noted that the traditional crafts sector includes both the crafts of strong cultural content production and service crafts, that’s on one hand, on the other hand, generally, there is a high demand throughout the world for Moroccan art of living, cultural heritage crafts, for interior design and Moroccan fashion.

Conscious of the importance of this industry that generates many jobs and foreign income, the government has put in place a sector strategy for the commercial promotion of traditional crafts, 2015 Vision, which has two objectives :

Thus, this strategy addresses both large companies which constitute the future major players to the few SMEs based in the cities with a crafts tradition as well as lone Artisans, generally with a workshop where they work. The component of vocational training occupies a strategic position in this program through the establishment of a training program, comprising of two training modes:
Over the last three years, the region has not only managed to retain its fourth position at the national level after Casablanca, Fez and Marrakech, but also increased its participation in the national turnover, which rose from 5% in 2006 to 7% in 2008. In total, the turnover for the city of Rabat Sale has increased from 463 million dirhams in 2006 to 735 million dirhams in 2008, representing an annual average increase of about 30%, while sector exports have for their part reached 33 million dirhams in 2008. The craft activities are predominantly those related to the garment (weaving, traditional clothing, embroidery, ..), the carpet, the wood work and that of pottery.
